On top of this is are the following achievements: This song was called 'Reilly' and was an amazing experience to be apart of, considering the message and meaning of the song. I've had another local artist, before he was a good friend, Luke Floyd/ " Keegan Hayes ", ask me to record, mix, and master a soulful hip-hop/rap song (using a pre-made beat) with his lead and backup vocals. One of these was purposed for online streaming and 4 for live performances and shows which I treated appropriately (a cheap $200 charged total for that).

To put simple numbers down, I've had one artist and friend (Patrick Dunstan/ " Spektrik ") ask me to mix, prepare and assist production as well as do a basic glue balance and maximise master on 5 electronic music tracks.

For an example, two weeks ago I was learning how to operate analogue gear and their emulations and the difference in-between, as well as aliasing from the SSL strip, LA-2A/3A, 1176, PulTech EQs, DBX160a and much more, and learning the science and artistic character/behaviours behind FET, Variable MU, Optical and Digital-only compressor types (for example).Īs of right now and partially due to my previous learning through Oxford Creative Academy and personal audio and music study before SAE during High School, I have already begun earning (small amounts of) money from building a clientele of various local and American artists and artist-friends from music-mates to industry-relevant artists and professionals. To huge things such as mixing workflows, processing units/plugins and their differences, different applications and applying them to intentions in the audio track/source and multitrack mix of emotion, mastering basics, recording techniques.

From little details such as raising a fader for early-timed vocal phrases, and backing the voltage down on late-timed vocals to accentuate realistic emotion and hide timing behind expression and transients. In between SAE classes and projects I have been studying, questioning, trying learnt information and revising videos, (i.e Lynda, quality YouTube channels), books/articles (i.e Paul Stavrou Mixing With Your Mind) and online tutorials from verified audio companies (i.e Izotope, Waves). This hunger means that personally, the most valuable lessons at SAE are those that allow me to see how much I DO NOT know, allowing me to expand my bigger-picture-view on what I need to learn and have as second nature and adapt and expand my horizons across the industry as a whole to discover and uncover what my next goals are to help me become a better student, audio engineer, artist and audio industry professionals.

I strive every day to learn more and dive deeper into different realms of audio in-between the content from SAE. My name is Leigh Krampe, I am an audio student studying at SAE Creative Media Institute, Sydney, on a dedicated journey to earn and achieve a Bachelor/Associates Degree level of Audio understanding and an even higher level of industry experience, in-depth knowledge and skill set beyond the average trained mind.and I get the piece of paper at the end which I guess is cool too.
